Launch of the national strategy for developing saffron production
September 16, 2025As part of promoting scientific research and technological development, and in implementation of the instructions of the President of the Republic regarding the preparation of a national strategy for the development and organization of saffron cultivation – a strategy officially launched on September 1st at the National Higher School of Agronomy (ENSA) under the joint supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fishing – and to embody this national initiative, the Biotechnology Research Center (C.R.Bt) actively contributed to this campaign by mobilizing its experimental station in El Baraouia for saffron cultivation on September 2nd and 3rd.
This operation was supervised by the Director of the Research Center, Professor Ammar Azioune, as well as researchers and engineers from the Center, in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mrs. Mokdad Soraya and Mr. Mohamed Loucif, and the Director of the Scientific and Technical Research Center on Arid Zones (C.R.S.T.R.A), Professor Kechbar Mohamed Seif Allah, accompanied by a technical team specialized in saffron cultivation techniques.
This visit represented an important opportunity to assess the available potential and discuss ways to develop the saffron sector in Algeria by harnessing scientific research and technological development, particularly in the areas of improving productivity, quality, and sustainability.
