We are pleased to invite you to an engaging webinar presented by Dr. Rafael Polidoro Alves Barbosa from Indiana University School of Medicine.
This presentation explores the dual role of the gut microbiota in malaria: on one hand, its involvement in worsening the infection (increased parasitemia and altered adaptive immunity), and on the other hand, the intestinal damage caused by the parasite leading to bacterial translocation and multi-organ failure. Dr. Rafael’s work on murine models demonstrates that the microbiota modulates immunity through T-cell differentiation and cytokine production. By combining flow cytometry, cytokine assays (ELISA/multiplex), and microbiota analysis, we decipher these mechanisms to develop new therapeutic strategies targeting the gut-immunity axis.
