Nearly 10 million people died from cancer in 2020. The disease incidence is increasing for several reasons: an aging population – most of the people diagnosed with cancer are older than 60; dietary changes; tobacco and alcohol use; and lack of physical activity. Cancer-causing infections, such as human papillomavirus (HPV) and hepatitis are also important drivers of increased cancer incidence. Globally, prostate cancer is is the second most common cancer. Among African men, it is ranked 1st in both incidence and mortality.
